Vision & Challenges
- Building a platform to create consistency in design over different teams and products.
- Finding a design language with aspects for both, casual and power users, customers and employees.
- Creating a living library that is able to grow and adapt over time to new needs and challenges.
Approach & Methods
We started out by collecting and taking a look at all the existing UI components and UX needs of the companies digital products.
Through interviews we also started to collect the specific needs from different kinds of users such as designers, developers and product owners.
In workshops we explored different approaches of education and design systems, working out the concept and the overall content for our own platform together with a trusted agency.
We also created a new icon and illustration language, based on the brands typography. While the other topics were more evenly split up, this project I managed alone.
After structuring content for the platform, we researched, drafted and discussed it before writing several articles and creating assets for publishing.
The design system was made available as a website and a sketch library with symbols, that match the structure online.
A biweekly meeting for all designers across the company was established to help each other out in terms of consistency. We also used this format for discovering new needs and defining what should be included in the next update of the platform, so the design system will stay up to date.
