Vision & Challenges
- Visualize what we encounter in our everyday life in one way or another, patterns.
- Learning about different kinds of patterns, such as organic ones in nature, conceptual ones in products and psychological ones in behaviour.
- Understanding the theory of symmetry, its constraints and possibilities.
Approach & Methods
The first thing I already knew about but wanted to look further into was M.C.Escher‘s work on the matter. His conceptual and visual work inspired me a lot.
Another big inspiration came from the Memphis group in the 80‘s and how they broke the conventional and familiar to create something new for its own sake.
While researching different kinds of patterns I decided to follow the Crystallographic Notion rules to visualize patterns occurring in nature such as branching, spiral, flow and cracking.
For the visualization I created and gathered subjects that represented those natural patterns. Through manipulation of those and following the symmetry rules I created the final designs.
